If you have been advised that a migration is about to start, you will need to check your current settings to make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. These settings will be in different places, depending on your device. You will need to make sure that:
- Whenever asked about a secure/SSL connection, you select Secure or SSL
- IMAP port should be 993 for incoming servers
- SMTP port should be 465 or 587 for outgoing settings
- Your hostname or mail server should look like mail.YOURDOMAIN.CO.UK, i.e. if your domain was jemford.co.uk, then you should enter mail.jemford.co.uk
- If your device says that your username or password is optional, you MUST fill it in regardless
Here are where many common software packages store the above information:
MacOS Mail:
- Mail -> Settings -> Accounts -> Your account -> Server Settings -> Host Name (incoming and outgoing are on this screen)
iOS Mail:
- INCOMING: Settings -> Apps -> Mail -> Mail Accounts -> Your Account -> Account Settings -> Host Name
OUTGOING: Settings -> Apps -> Mail -> Mail Accounts -> Your Account -> Account Settings -> SMTP -> Primary Server -> Host Name
Samsung Android:
- Email -> Menu -> Settings/Cog -> Your Account -> Server settings -> Server address (incoming and outgoing are on this screen)
Microsoft Outlook:
- File -> Account Settings -> Server Settings -> Incoming mail server (update this field if required) -> Outgoing mail server (update this field if required) -> Next -> Done
Mozilla Thunderbird:
- INCOMING: Settings -> Account Settings -> Your Account -> Server Settings -> Server Name
- OUTGOING: Settings -> Account Settings -> Outgoing Server (SMTP) -> Your Email -> Edit -> Server Name
